The brief for this project required literal thinking as we had to create an illustration and an illustration for chapter header for a short story by M.R. James. My short story was 'The Lost Hearts' and for the main illustration I focused on a specific extract from the story, "he felt as if an endless procession of unseen people were sweeping past him on the wind, borne on restlessly and aimlessly, vainly striving to stop themselves, to catch at something that might arrest their flight and bring them once again into contact with the living world of which they had formed a part." For the chapter header I choose to illustrate a 'Hurdy Gurdy' which is a musical instrument belonging to one of the missing children in the story.
